EXT. CHINA – SILING SALTWATER LAKE – LATE AFTERNOON

A single figure upon the dunes; casually dressed in dungarees and a pullover shirt. A Tibetan guide of the Indian Institute of science in Bangalore.

Bearing a pair of binoculars and a USB hard-drive around his neck; has been requested to investigate, a horrific sight.

HUNDREDS of dead fish and scattered clay POTS, lye along the shorelines.

CHI-LI (26) MALE. A GEOLOGIST STUDENT; raises both hands up the side of his face, finally resting on the TOP of his head.

CHI-LI

(Tāmen shì duì de)

Oh my god, He was right.

CLICK. CLICK. CLICK.

Chi-Li continued for hours: changing position’s; picture after picture. Adjusting his lens; Chi-Li continues documenting this strange phenomenon, Chi-Li stands motionless.

In the distance, upon a ledge. A fire roars; HIGH into the night’s sky, a moment of Silence prevails.

VOICES in the hundred’s. Chi-li turns quickly towards the HILLS. A rejuvenation chant; echo’s the once quiet, and serene landscape.

TITLE: Tomorrow Never Comes

INT. CIA HEADQUARTERS – LANGLEY VIRGINIA – MORNING

In the TOP floor of a secure intelligence complex; reveals a SILHOUETTE. The Director of the CIA sits; his FEET upon the desk, reading the paper. The vibration of his phone; causes it to SLIDE, across his desk.

As he LIFTS his phone; the brightness of the screen outlines a PROFILE of his face. The screen reveals no name; only a specific word, RESTRICTED.

Reminded of a past assignment. A sound under his breath becomes apparent.

MARK THOMAS (65) MALE. DIRECTOR. No facial recognition. Remains incognito. Tilts his head back, closes his eyes.

DIRECTOR THOMAS

(Geez H)

You know; when I see the word restricted on my phone; it is not a warning but a name, and there is only one. Nicholai–it has been a few decades, what can I do for you my old friend?

INTERCUT:

INT. SWISS INTEL – ZURICH, SWITZERLAND – LATE EVENING

A few miles south of Bern Switzerland; a secure and well disguised official complex. The offices of the Swiss global Intelligence.

Impatiently PACING his office, NICOLAI HANSSON (66) MALE. SWITZERLAND’S FEDERAL COUNSELOR. Italian suit. Bald, bushy eyebrows. Twirls a pen, between his fingers.

He begins to use an old code to relay a situation; one that has resurfaced, an assignment that was never to be spoken of, again.

NICOLAI

Oh the feeling is mutual; who could forget, my third assignment and my first time working with an American.

Let’s just forget the formalities, shall we?. It seems our cancelled fishing trip some years ago; has been rescheduled.

Seemingly DETACHED from the conversation; Director Thomas begins to ROTATE, in his chair and sits up.

DIRECTOR THOMAS

And why; am I, hearing about this ,now?

An open folder on his desk. Nicholai swipes through the first few papers: revealing a resume’ of accolades; military history, and their employment.

The last 2 pages depict; both young and old pictures, of a previous suspect.

NICOLAI

Because I believe; the Captain of the boat may know where the fish are.

DIRECTOR THOMAS

Have you made reservations?

Under a PILE of newspapers; Nicholai PULLS out the profile of a new agent. A file given to him by his superior.

NICOLAI

I have a new mate working the decks. I will pass on his fishing tips to you; as soon as I can.

Director Thomas OPENS a wooden box; ROLLS 3 cigars back and forth between his fingers. Choosing one; he brings it to his nose and takes a deep inhale, along its length.

DIRECTOR THOMAS

I should give you a heads up.

NICOLAI

I’m listening.

Director Thomas CLIPS off the tip and brings the cigar to his mouth.

DIRECTOR THOMAS

In 6 weeks; I will be having surgery, it seems old age catches up with the best of us.

Nicholai feels nothing towards his condition. The animosity was still there.

NICOLAI

(Sarcastic)

Sorry to hear, I hope it’s nothing serious.

Director Thomas reaches for a lighter: leaning against a picture; the cast of his favorite movie, the untouchables.

He wipes his fingers over the image of Eliot Ness; his idol.

DIRECTOR THOMAS

Thank you for that; however, you might have to go-it alone on this trip, but I do look forward to our next seminar.

Director Thomas SNAPS his flip-phone closed.

Both reminded of their involvement. The internal code speaks volumes. Director Thomas ROTATES in his chair and STARES out the window. Smoke RISES from a freshly lit cigar.

Nicholai expecting nothing less. LOOKS at his phone then TOSSES it on his desk.

NICOLAI

What a Arschloch. (Asshole)

DR. SCHAFER

As a matter of fact it is; why would you think otherwise?

The waiter glances out the window and points.

WAITER

Your lack of attendance. The spectacular view usually attracts most new travelers to enjoy the scenery.

A nod. A shrug. Completely oblivious.

DR. SCHAFER

Yes; well; every thing looks fantastic, thank you.

A slight bow of respect.

WAITER

Your welcome sir. Will there be anything else?

CONCIERGE(27 FEMALE) Double breasted blazer. Well mannered.

CONCIERGE

The concierge smiles.

CONCIERGE

Dr. Schafer scratching his head.

DR. SCHAFER

One please.

Concierge extends card key and points.

CONCIERGE

Here you go sir; Second elevator on your left, use the card key for access. Do you need help with your bags?

Rubbing the crease of his hat; he places it back on his head, then the satchel strap over his shoulder.

DR. SCHAFER

CONCIERGE

Very well, enjoy your stay.

Dr. Schafer begun to turn; nodded and walks away.

DR. SCHAFER

Thank you.

Dr. Schafer continued with a slow stride. An office door opens.

A short shuffle to meet up with Dr. Schafer; leaves the MANAGER (51 MALE) WELL DRESSED, slightly out of breath.

MANAGER

Excuse me Heir Schafer, My apologies. I am the hotels manager. I was to be notified upon your arrival; we have a package for you.

Dr. Schafer stops and turns.

DR. SCHAFER

The Manager HANDS the package to him. Dr. Schafer reaches out.

MANAGER

Yes: it was actually delivered two days ago; It was kept in the office due to it’s unique wrapping. I am sorry; the concierge didn’t know.

Dr. Schafer turns the package over and over imagining it’s contents.

DR. SCHAFER

Understood, Thank you.

MANAGER

My pleasure, enjoy your stay.

A TILT of his hat.

DR. SCHAFER

Ah–ah.

EXECUTIVE SUITE – MOMENTS LATER

Elaborate furnishings. Grand city view. Dr. Schafer places his personal items on the table. Turns on TV: grabs the package; gets comfortable, and picks up the phone.

RING. RING.

DR. SCHAFER

Room service please.

Mid-conversation Dr. Schafer stops and listens intently to a broadcast. Pictures on TV screen; show extensive carnage along the shore lines of a lake.

ANNOUNCER (O.S.)

In world news. We are the first to broadcast a strange activity developing in China. Deep inside the Old Tibetan region; a once peaceful, tranquil area has been plagued with a rare site–a thin gray fog covering a large portion of Siling Lake.

A shuffle to the end of his chair.

Dr. Schafer and his assistant: finishing up on their latest inspiration; a survival kit for field soldiers, a breakthrough in converting any water source, into potable water.

Both staring at the centrifuge waiting for the final results; The last few revolutions causes the Dr. to tap frantically on the counter. As the rotation stops he throws off his scrub cap.

DR. SCHAFER

Nein, Nein!… This is not what I expected; there must be something we are missing.

With both hands on his head, Dr. Schafer tries to relay a situation.

DR. SCHAFER

That gray mist can not materialize in small doses. If this is used in the field it could cause a situation.

ASSISTANT (18) MEDICAL STUDENT. Removing one of the test tubes, they both seem to arrive at the same conclusion.

ASSISTANT

Doctor the compound continues to weaken too quickly; the problem seems to be–

Dr. Schafer TURNS quickly towards his assistant.

DR. SCHAFER

–Yes. Yes, it seems to be the reaction time; it may actually be the catalyst its self. We must start with a new base formula and work from there.

ASSISTANT

Right away doctor.

The assistant prepares a new concentration of chemicals, measuring each very carefully.

Dr. Schafer turns: admires text books on a shelf; then runs his hands along them, and begins a short positive speech, to educate his assistant.

DR. SCHAFER

Remember my son; it must be made sustainable and portable for soldiers–for any soldier in the field. Time is our enemy–that has to be our focus.

Swipes the dust from his hands

Too many people, too many becoming deathly ill and dying.

The assistant stops mid-mix, looks up.

ASSISTANT

I believe we are close.

WAITER 1 (22)

WAITER 1

Room service.

Running water.

START HERE……

DR. SCHAFER

One moment please.

Wiping his hands dry: Dr. Schafer walks towards door; looks through the peephole, unlocks it and opens door.

WAITER 1

Good afternoon sir, sorry for the delay, we just made a fresh pot of our finest and of course your requested cream-filled croissants warm to the touch. Oh and the Manager sent up a complimentary fruit plate.

Waiter rolls the cart in as Dr. Schafer walks behind him.

DR. SCHAFER

Please just set it down anywhere– perfect thank you.

Dr. Schafer hands him 5 euros.

WAITER 1

Thank you sir. Have a pleasant stay.

The door closes. Dr. Schafer with package still in hand stands mid-room; the right moment continues to elude him from opening it.

An adjacent door between hotel rooms opens; Linder announces themselves, rhetorically.

LINDER

Quite the unique wrapping, wouldn’t you agree?

Startled, Dr. Schafer turns and steps back.

DR. SCHAFER

Pardon me–who are you? What is this?

LINDER

Excuse me, not even a thank you–Do you not enjoy a gift?

DR. SCHAFER

Your gift, How did you–?

Linder casually walks while admiring the rooms décor. Dressed in a double breasted black Balmain short suit; long red Ponytail and knee high boots.

LINDER

–Getting in and who I am is not really important now is it? I go by many names. What is important at this moment–is the item in that package, would you mind?

Unwrapping the package Dr. Schafer looks up.

DR. SCHAFER

It’s a Pecha; does this have anything to do with what is happening in China?

A point of a finger and tilt of her head.

LINDER

Ah… and there it is. So you are up with current affairs; I am glad to see you still care.

DR. SCHAFER

I have seen a wooden book like this before; but why would you give this to me?

Linder leers over the Pecha, then her eyes made contact with his.

LINDER

Its not the execution my dear sir: It was just meant for you to recall; a specific place and a specific time, but it seems I didn’t need to do that at all.

Linder’s finger raised and motions side to side.

LINDER

No. No. No it is really what’s inside that counts; so if you please, I would love for you to enlighten me to it’s contents.

Upon opening it; Dr. Schafer pulls out a piece of paper, ripped at one end.

SUPER: Acid(aq) + Base(aq)~ Salt(s) + H2O(1)

Dr. Schafer reads a chemical compound he has not seen in years; rubbing and waving the paper between his fingers.

DR. SCHAFER

Where did you get this? This isn’t even a completed formula?

Linder casually takes a seat.

LINDER

Please–that is why I am here; to find the missing piece.

DR. SCHAFER

I don’t remember it… is has been so long. I can’t give you what I don’t know.

Linder extends her hand.

LINDER

Please just have a seat and start from the beginning–shall we? I need to know all involved; simply put–I need to know who helped you and maybe together we can complete the puzzle. So have some coffee and lets begin.

Dr. Schafer waves off the invitation. Takes a seat across from Linder.

DR. SCHAFER

I am no longer thirsty. It has been almost 40 something years; I don’t know if I can–

LINDER

–Oh but Please try, it would save me a lot of time.

Sitting, gift in hand.

DR. SCHAFER

He told me it was a simple phone call from his superiors.

INT. FLASHBACK – OFFICE – EVENING

SUPER: 1959 Langley, Virginia

Tension are building high, between Tibet and China. The Americans have exhausted all military efforts; to help the Tibetans, fight off the Chinese, to no avail.

DIRECTOR THOMAS (22) YOUNGER VERSION. Forcing his way into this new position. His second assignment; runs into a snag and he begins to reach out for ideas, including his old boss.

DIRECTOR THOMAS

Our attempts at arming the Tibetans through our covert support, have proven unsuccessful. As you know; we cannot allow China to acquire that much territory and expand their global reach, and now I am coming up dry.

INTERCUT:

INT. RESTAURANT – STATEN ISLAND – NEW YORK – CONTINUOUS

Enjoying dinner at ‘The Blue’: his favorite watering hole, becomes interrupted.

Previous DIRECTOR STEPHEN LOWERY (32) NOW AGENT OF WESTERN AFFAIRS: Who loves to talk; even to his new boss, in his old position.

AGENT LOWERY

Ah; The teacher becomes the student–to be called by the teacher.

DIRECTOR THOMAS

What do you think it will take?

STEPHEN LOWERY

I would need to re-establish contact with a friend; a graduate of Chicago’s–.

DIRECTOR THOMAS

–I don’t need details. Get on it ASAP.

CLICK:

STEPHEN LOWERY

Yes sir!

RETURN TO SCENE:

DR. SCHAFER

That’s is when, I got the call. He asked if we could meet. I was pretty sure it was a business opportunity and at first I was reluctant; but I finally agreed, so we made arrangements.

INT./EXT. FLASHBACK – NEW DELHI, INDIA – AFTERNOON

National museum: a Public location; Crowded, a meeting between two old acquaintances. Admiring antiques in a glass case, no eye contact. Stephen reaches out; covertly.

STEPHEN LOWERY

I am in need of your services.

DR. SCHAFER

I didn’t think this was a social visit, what’s on you mind?

STEPHEN LOWERY

I am sure you are aware of the current status of China and Tibet.

DR. SCHAFER

Yes, I am aware, but what does that have to do with me?

STEPHEN LOWERY

Take a walk with me. I need a temporary solution; something to discourage China, from wanting the region.

DR. SCHAFER

What do you have in mind?

STEPHEN LOWERY

The water source; Siling lake. I remember you worked on something similar some years earlier.

DR. SCHAFER

Yes; but that was for something completely different. Why would you need that?

STEPHEN LOWERY

I actually need it to do the opposite; temporarily, is it possible?

DR. SCHAFER

I guess If I tweaked it a bit, it could be useful. Was this your idea?

STEPHEN LOWERY

In a manner of speaking. How long before it could be available?

DR. SCHAFER

I would need at least a week.. Payment arrangements?

STEPHEN LOWERY

Same account?

DR. SCHAFER

It’s a pleasure to see you again my friend.

STEPHEN LOWERY

Keep me posted.

RETURN TO SCENE:

DR. SCHAFER

It was a very simple Idea. It actually made sense and seemed harmless enough so I agreed. The only issue I had was to make it seem natural, perhaps an environmental mistake.

Dr. Schafer checks his pulse.

DR. SCHAFER

An exposure of that magnitude in a short period of time would be very dangerous.

A brisk walk to the window, his hand upon the glass.

DR. SCHAFER

The answer came in the form of little clay pots–they were called Canopic jars; durable, but weakened in water. Being delivered over a period of time would create such an illusion.

Dr. Schafer turned towards Linder.

DR. SCHAFER

I knew where to get them; that’s when he told me, he needed to meet with a friend of a friend.

LINDER

Do these friends have names?

Leaning back in his chair.

DR. SCHAFER

Next time we met up; he told me.

START HERE,,,,,

INT. FLASHBACK – UNKNOWN TRAIL – EVENING

Tibetan region. Tents, Fire pits.

A meeting Mid-conversation.

STEPHEN LOWERY

My associates have given me the okay to proceed. I am passing this task on to you to initiate.

CHOEKYI TEPAL (21) 10TH PANCHEN LAMA. Distinctive. Black hair, ponytail. Soft spoken, well read. A chuba; broad-front panel attire. Long sleeves, and a loose waisted garment.

CHOEKYI

The Dali lama must not hear of these actions. These are not for his ears, and what you seek is against our beliefs. We are a peaceful people.

STEPHEN LOWERY

Are you not with the Dalai Lama, Sworn to protect him at all costs?

CHOEKYI

Yes, that is our way but what you are asking would challenge our beliefs and lines we are not willing to cross.

STEPHEN LOWERY

My associates believe… if it is not yours, it should not be theirs.

CHOEKYI

Yes I would agree, but this can not be of our doing, but I may know just the ones to carry this out. We are not the only ones sworn to protect.

STEPHEN LOWERY

Then who?

RETURN TO SCENE:

DR. SCHAFER

It was Agent Lowerys mission to find someone to release these over a course of several months. I thought it was going to be an impossible task, but he was able to secure a willing participant–but I needed to meet with him and show him how it works. When the jars finally arrived I had them delivered by a Man and his son.

LINDER

Do you remember there names?

DR. SCHAFER

No, they were delivered to a scrap yard that’s all I remember, please it was 50 years ago.

LINDER

Go on.

DR. SCHAFER

That’s it, then the next day we met.

INT. FLASHBACK – TEMPLE- EVENING

Ancient Tibetan mosque.

Monks, bodyguard regiment, guerilla leader congregate.

DR. SCHAFER

(To all present)

I request to speak only to Andruk.

ANDRUK GONPO TASHI (61) GUERILLA LEADER OF CHUSHI GANGDRUK. Distinctive markings on fingers. Long beard and moustache. A brocade hat. A full length wool coat.

ANDRUK

This is not possible, another must sit in to prove my loyalty.

TENZIN GYATSO (25) TIBETAN MONK. Reserved, Quiet, Attentive. Red and yellow Buddhist attire.

ANDRUK

Tenzin please, sit amongst us. Now Dr. Schafer show me.

RETURN TO SCENE:

DR. SCHAFER

I showed him the chemical compound and told them how it works. 25 jars a month strategically placed for a few months, would render the Lake unfavorable.

LINDER

So where is the rest of the formula?

DR. SCHAFER

I don’t know, by the time I realized I didn’t have it on my person they were gone. That’s all I know. I wasn’t involved in anything after that.

LINDER

And you can’t remember it?

DR. SCHAFER

I am 84 years old–I can’t remember yesterday.

Linder stands, walks over to the table and picks up a piece of fruit.

LINDER

You remind me of a West African fruit called the ‘Miracle fruit, have you ever heard of it?

DR. SCHAFER

No.

LINDER

The ‘Miracle fruit’ changes how you taste other foods rather than changing its own flavor. When you eat this ripe red berry a special protein inside sticks to your tongue. It makes sour things, like lemons and limes, taste very sweet for up to 2 hours. I guess what I am trying to say is our time here is complete or should I say Fertig?

Linder pulls out a pair of rubber gloves.

DR. SCHAFER

(Urgent)

That’s it–I swear! I didn’t know–I didn’t even have time to finish my analysis–I was rushed–Please understand.

LINDER

Shhhh Please relax, we are done here. You gave me everything I needed and I thank you.

DR. SCHAFER

So what happens now?

LINDER

First off, I want to personally thank you for your service and your contributions to science through the years for I myself–

Flailing hand.

LINDER

You know it doesn’t really matter now.

DR. SCHAFER

So what am I supposed to do now?

Linder takes hold of the scrap paper and light’s it.

LINDER

I am sorry, that my friend has already been taking care of. Guten Tag.

A final walk to the door, Linder stops, turns and removes the ponytail wig.

LINDER

Because I admire you, They call me the ‘Fruit fly’

LI-JING

Come on, your not excited?

JEAN-PIERRE

It’s like a 5 or 6 day trip–and two of them are travel time… I really don’t need much but a carry-on.

LI-JING

Oh my, I can’t wait, I can’t even sleep.

JEAN-PIERRE

I hope I can get as excited as you. Maybe–just maybe! If I can get some sleep, Night.

Releasing her bags and setting them down.

LI-JING

Yes it has–How are things with you since our last meeting in Taiwan?

CHI-LI

Very well thank you. I hope everything worked out.

Removing her coat and hat Li-Jing stretches out.

LI-JING

Actually your carbon dating confirmed my suspicions and the books were a fake.

CHI-LI

I am glad I could help. Please let me get these bags for you. How was your trip?

Walking towards the hotel, Li-Jing begins to scan her location.

LI-JING

Quite relaxing thank you. I don’t see anyone else I know, has any of the other group arrived yet.

Chi-Li heads remains low as he tries to hold back some disturbing news.

CHI-LI

(Reluctant)

Well… yes Dr. Rousse arrived earlier–but you must be exhausted. Let’s get you to your room, maybe you would like to freshen up a bit.

Li-Jing stops dead in her tracks. A slant of her head in question.

LI-JING

Chi-li, I know that look. Is there something your not telling me?

Standing perfect still as the bags start to weigh him down.

CHI-LI

I did some research for Dr. Rousse and may have come up with a few answers he was looking for but I still need a little more time with it. Please, let’s talk over dinner?

INT. HOTEL – LATER

Dining room. Dim lighting a medium crowd

Chi-Li waiting patiently fondling his ice water with a straw. Li-Jing appears at the main doors, Chi-Li stands-raises his hand and pulls out a chair. Li-Jing approaches with a smile.

LI-JING

Will Dr. Rousse be joining us?

Returning to his seat.

CHI-LI

No, I am afraid not, he said he couldn’t get comfortable on the plane, and something about a bad night’s sleep–he said you would know all about it.

Sipping water. She burps out the water into her glass.

LI-JING

(Chuckles)

Oh I see, while I wouldn’t know anything about that. So what is this big news?

CHI-LI

From your reaction I am assuming  no-one has told you.

Placing her glass down, wiping her mouth dry.

LI-JING

Told me what?

CHI-LI

Mr. Schafer was found dead 3 days ago, and all the others have cancelled their plans to join us.

Both hands cover her mouth in shock.

LI-JING

OMG! When, I mean, where was this?

CHI-LI

A hotel room in France.

LI-JING

France, what happened?

CHI-LI

I was told he was alone, a briefcase, burnt paper in an ashtray. Their not giving out much info being an on-going investigation and all. They are labeling it a heart attack.

LI-JING

That’s horrible. I don’t mean to sound insensitive, but do they know what the letter said, where did it come from, anything at all?

CHI-LI

I don’t know anymore than that. That’s all Dr. Rousse told me when he arrived. We leave in the morning so, you can ask him then–he might know more.

Elbows on the table, mouth becomes dry. Li-Jing reaches towards an empty glass. Attracts the attention of a waiter.

LI-JING

Though I never met him I felt I knew him from all the years of reading his material and the work he has done, it’s so sad.

Leaning back in chair, waiter approaches.

WAITER

May I interest you in the specials for tonight?

Raises her empty glass.

LI-JING

HAO (14) GUIDE ASSISTANT. Happy go lucky. Aware. Noting norms.

HAO

Are we ready?

Chi-Li with a piece of tall grass in his mouth, turns to the group.

CHI-LI

4 riders. Horse’s, donkey’s. Equipment and supplies maintain a slow stride. Li-Jing moves alongside Jean-Pierre. Heads turn admiring the scenery.

LI-JING

I love this view, you can almost feel the history here.

Looking at each other Jean-Pierre removes his hat and wipes his forehead.

JEAN-PIERRE

I really didn’t understand it till now. I get it–now that I see it with my own two eyes.

From behind Chi-Li rides up along side, pulls grass out of his mouth.

CHI-LI

Sorry to interrupt. I have done extensive research in this area over the years and I have never seen anything like this before. I am glad you contacted me. Is there something specific you need to look for?

A quick stop. All others follow his lead. Jean-Pierre turns his horse around.

JEAN-PIERRE

I am not sure yet, a clue maybe–I hope to know it when I see it.

Looking across at each other an excited party and their horse becomes vocal.

LI-JING

How much farther?

Looking into the horizon.

CHI-LI

We should be there by morning.

A snap of her head.

LI-JING

Morning?

The ride resumes. Hao starts to take the lead.

HAO

He is correct Dr.. So, do as I do and take it all in while you can.

Li-Jing turns with a smile across her face and a chuckle.

LI-JING

Hao, you are a breath of fresh air.

Hao, re-establishes first rider. Jean-Pierre turns to Li-Jing.

JEAN-PIERRE

Don’t laugh I am actually starting to believe him.

A few hundred yards ahead, Hao stops and rears his horse.

HAO

Chi-Li! First camp site ahead, we stop for the night, yes?

CAMPSITE – CONTINUOUS

Campfire lights the night’s sky. Jean-Pierre and Li-Jing reaching for chicken and beef shish-kabob. Turning it over and over, Li-Jing looks up.

LI-JING

Jean-Pierre, I never really got a chance to thank you for inviting me along and I didn’t want to ruin the trip–but I have to ask. Why didn’t you tell me about Dr. Schafer?

Pulling his stick out of the fire he looks up and offers a piece.

JEAN-PIERRE

I didn’t find out until I woke up the night you called. I tried to call you the next morning but it went straight to voicemail– not really something you leave on a message. Then I had to catch a flight, just bad timing I guess.

Resting her stick back down, she reaches for a drink of water.

LI-JING

I know you met him once or twice did you happen to hear anything through acquaintances or a friend to what happened?

Blowing on a piece of beef, he pulls a piece off.

JEAN-PIERRE

I met him once at a party a few years ago, and believe me it didn’t really go well. But I really don’t know anymore than I told Chi-Li, It seems he had ordered some room service and was never heard from again. The food was never touched but they did find something that resembled a book and burnt paper in a tray.

The faint sound of a violin begun. Li-Jing and Jean-Pierre turn simultaneously.

Hao, walking and playing a soft melodic tune towards the hills.

Chi-Li walking the site, stops and turns around. Closes his eyes and faces the mountains. A quiet prayer. His eyes open as he begun a night watch around the campsite.

LI-JING

Is that?

JEAN-PIERRE

Hao, you didn’t tell me you played the violin.

Hao, stops lowers his arms.

HAO

Not for you, for the mountains and animals. Music echoes, they answer back. Safe passage welcome, Listen closely.

Hao continues. Li-Jing turns over her food one more time and pulls it out and looks up.

LI-JING

That is just so beautiful. So Jean, do you know what kind of book it was: a text book, a note book?

JEAN-PIERRE

A odd wooden book, no pages but it was empty inside. That’s all I really know– Now let’s just enjoy the food and the relaxing music.

Extending his kabob stick.

JEAN-PIERRE

You have to try the vegetables.

Li-Jing’s eyes widen as she rubs her hands together.

LI-JING

Oh yes, I was waiting for those. Thank you.

EXT. OLD TIBETAN REGION – MID MORNING

SUPER: Nam lake.

HAO

We are here.

The group dismounts at the base of the crescent-shaped dunes.

Relieving the horses and donkeys of their added weight they start to set up a base camp.

LI-JING

It seems so peaceful, just as I pictured it.

JEAN-PIERRE

Chi-Li, where did you take those pictures from you sent me.

CHI-LI

Just over the dunes.

HAO

I set up camp, you go see.

JEAN-PIERRE

Li-Jing, take a walk.

HAO

I go too, I want to see.

Waves them on.

JEAN-PIERRE

Come on Hao, camp can wait.

A flat smooth crystal clear salt water lake slowly begins to appear as the group reaches the top of the dunes.

CHI-LI

Hold you breath, It seems the wind is–.

LI-JING

(Shocked)

–OMG! That smell is horrible. Geez-H! Are all these fish dead?

Hand raised high.

HAO

Look what I found.

JEAN-PIERRE

What is that?

HAO

Yes, a little cup… see empty?

CHI-LI

What is empty?

LI-JING

Let me see that. I have read about these. It’s look like a canopic jar. They were used in ceremonial burials, but this one is different, a different material all together. Chi-Li can you tell what this is made of?

CHI-LI

It’s a simple pottery, I think it is a gift store knock-off. Its definitely fake, and a cheap one at that… but what the hell is it doing here?

JEAN-PIERRE

I just read about them, they were–

LI-JING

(distraught)

–they were used for different things maybe someone visiting Siling lake lost it.

CHI-LI

I guess you found your first clue.

Questionable look.

JEAN-PIERRE

Yeah, maybe.

HAO

No Siling Lake, Nam lake.

LI-JING

Excuse me! Are you sure?

CHI-LI

Oh he knows.

HAO

You said take me too lake no specify. This closes one been here many times. Siling Lake same way, All fish dying. Little cups there too.

LI-JING

Chi-Li, we need to found out how this is possible. These lakes do not connect am I correct?

CHI-LI

They do not, they don’t even have an outlet. Streams and rivers feed them separately then they dehydrate naturally over time from the weather.

LI-JING

We have to go back. Grab a few samples of the fish and water for analysis. I need to call this in.

JEAN-PIERRE

Are you kidding, we just got here!

LI-JING

Your joking right?

JEAN-PIERRE

(Under his breath)

Lead a man to water, and he can’t even take a swim, I’m coming.

CHI-LI

I am sorry, I prematurely spoke.

JEAN-PIERRE

What do you mean?

CHI-LI

You don’t have 1 clue, you have 3.

JEAN-PIERRE

Actually this is my first.

DR. SCHAFER

Oh, I have been coming here since the mid-50’s and every year since. It takes my breath away. Egypt is the perfect place to hold these events. The atmosphere is just so breathtaking, and oh my, the history, wouldn’t you agree?

DR. SCHAFER

You have quite a bit to go through I am sure, what part of my work or should I say alphabet are you up too?

JEAN-PIERRE

Actually I am currently going through the work you did during the war.

DR. SCHAFER

Which one, I have seen many.

WWII, Especially your work with waterborne illnesses and freshwater for the troops–I thought that was admirable.

DR. SCHAFER

Admirable? That was a horrible time.

JEAN-PIERRE

Yes, but you shared your work with the world and didn’t use it– well…

DR. SCHAFER

I see, well I appreciate your candor, but somethings I wish to forget and other things just get taken out of your hands. Will you excuse me please?

INT. SECURE ROOM – AFTERNOON

Denver, Colorado.

Large table, iPad’s, wall monitor.

Official military and department heads.

JEAN-PIERRE

On the screen in front of you are the specs for what we believe could be the beginning of a ‘Non-sanctioned global violation’ or as we call it, N.S.G.V. If you scroll to section 9–

ATTENDEE 4

–Excuse me, N.S.G.V. I have never heard of such a thing, what is that exactly?

JEAN-PIERRE

N.S.G.V is the use of a non-toxic agent against anything other than human life. This particular incident is believed to be the first of it’s kind. However the effects could prove more devastating than original designed.

ATTENDEE 4

How does it work?

JEAN-PIERRE

It is basically a Non- toxic extermination. If you please scroll to section 9, you will see it’s structure and it’s potential. Ms. Song if you please.

Stopped here on re-write 7-20-16 9 am

LI-JING

In the late 50’s the Tibetan’s were confronted with the idea of making the region uninhabitable by deceiving the Chinese government. This was to be a temporary tactic to convince China that the region had become barren–and the idea would deter China’s plans for control of the Tibetan region–by changing the basic foundation of Siling lake, though it was never used we believe this might be what we are looking at.

JEAN-PIERRE

It turns out, The Tibetan people themselves may have unknowingly been responsible for this current event.

ATTENDEE 2

There has been no activity in that region for over 60 years. What possible reason–and why now?

LI-JING

–The Reason? Tibetan heritage survival. At that time it was meant as non-violent protest to save their heritage. And why now? Well, that is not really a question but an observation. It was not originally meant as a weapon, just a deterrent.

ATTENDEE 3

What was the idea?

JEAN-PIERRE

The original chemical formula from 1944 used to make potable water from salt water for the troops during wartime was to be altered. The simple introduction of an unknown compound would trigger a reaction causing the Lake to become useless, basically a wasteland. It seems and for unknown reasons this chemical that had laid dormant for over 50 years has surfaced somehow. We believe the late Dr. Schafer was that architect.

LI-JING

As of this moment we believe we are not in any danger and find it hard to believe it will reach the earths oceans–but if it does, we are talking about complete chaos.

ATTENDEE

If I am reading this correctly, this report is based on findings from Nam lake.

LI-JING

Yes that is correct.

ATTENDEE

I thought we were talking about Siling lake?

LI-JING

(Hesitant)

I have asked my self the same question. A geologist associate from China has established a theory.

JEAN-PIERRE

(Interrupts)

If I may, I would like to request a few minutes with my colleague.

HALLWAY – CONTINUOUS

JEAN-PIERRE

This is not the time.

LI-JING

Yes it is!

JEAN-PIERRE

I believe it isn’t. We are still not sure if these scenarios are connected.

LI-JING

Are you serious? I am not going to be responsible for this, I am trying to rectify it. If this is actually leaking to the oceans, we have to tell them.

JEAN-PIERRE

I know we do but we need to make sure first.

RETURN TO SCENE:

JEAN-PIERRE

Thank you for waiting. We believe the original product contained 0.58 parts per million which is composed of urates and sulfates. Under normal circumstances, this is not unpleasant to taste and completely harmless with no toxic effects. If this is the same unknown compound introduced some 50+ years ago–it may have done something completely different.

LI-JING

Let me please remind you that this was never used and was supposedly disposed of.

ATTENDEE 4

Disposed of where?

JEAN-PIERRE

We are looking into that.

GENERAL BRADFORD (68) 3 STAR GENERAL. Flat-top haircut. Pristine suit. Cigar chewing.

GENERAL BRADFORD

So then, why am I here?

LI-JING

General, As you can see; it seems the supposed destructive chemical compound may have recently surfaced.

ATTENDEE 3

When?

JEAN-PIERRE ROUSSE

Within the last 10 days.

ATTENDEE 4

I am a little confused. If this was to temporarily interrupt the region back then–for a few years and Dr. Song tells us it was never used, why is it surfacing now after 50 years?

JEAN-PIERRE ROUSSE

That is what we need to find out. At this moment it is just conjecture.

ATTENDEE 2

Are these numbers correct?

LI-JING

Yes.

Chatter throughout room.

GENERAL BRADFORD

Would you consider this a military threat?

Silence.

JEAN-PIERRE ROUSSE

Not at this time. However if found; We can’t rule out that some extremists may try to use this as a bargaining tool in the future. My personal opinion is that military involvement could make things worse within the public eye. Were actually waiting on more information.

GENERAL BRADFORD

From whom?

LI-JING

I personally will be heading back to the Himalayan region in the morning to meet with another colleague, I should know more in a few days. We will let you know more then. Thank you.

Denver federal center, Colorado.

JEAN-PIERRE

It has come to my attention that this may be something more serious than previous discussed. Our sources show that a dramatic change has taken place in the Bay of Bengal. If you look at your screen you will see the reason for this disturbance. Please let me introduce Chi-Li, a geologist and a close colleague.

Tectonic plate display.

CHI-LI

Over the last few decades the Himalayan tectonic plates have caused a serious redirection of small volcanic tubes throughout the region. Fissures are now appearing as far north as the ISSYK-KUL region and in smaller lakes towards the south–flowing eventually into the bay. Ladies and gentlemen, we are no longer talking about a small insignificant incident.

ATTENDEE 2

I thought this was being taken care of.

I deeply apologize and I would hate to interrupt you 2 gentlemen, but what are talking about here?

CHI-LI

A global threat, one which at this point we are not sure how to or if we can even control. Remember it is not the tectonic plates that scares me, its the affect to the water.

ATTENDEE

What are you saying?

GENERAL BRADFORD

I think I have an idea.

LI-JING

Exactly signed by him, and it even has a delivery address.

JEAN-PIERRE

That address is in the Tibetan region, why there?

LI-JING

JEAN-PIERRE

Why?

LI-JING

Because!–Because I am scared, I am afraid.

JEAN-PIERRE

Then why travel alone?

I am sorry he passed away a few years ago, I am his son Samten, may I help you?

JEAN-PIERRE

I don’t know. There was a package delivered to this address some years ago from Egypt and was wondering if he knew anything about it.

SAMTEN

Does this have anything to do with what is on the local news?

LI-JING

Maybe, we really don’t know–that’s what we are trying to find out. Wait, why would you ask that?

SAMTEN

I think you are talking about this.

Jar on counter, pencil holder.

LI-JING

Oh my, that’s it, but?–

SAMTEN

I was just a little kid, I remember we had actually visited Siling Lake once. My dad said we were going fishing but we never did. We did however meet up with a man, actually a Tibetan monk and we gave him those boxes but I kept one…it’s a cute pencil holder, no?

LI-JING

Do you remember his name?

SAMTEN

Wow, It’s been so long. I remember it was a funny name it rhymed with that smell that we have around here.. Ben–something.

JEAN-PIERRE

It would really help us out.

SAMTEN

Ben–Benzene that’s it!

LI-JING

Benzene? His name is Benzene?

SAMTEN

No it’s Tenzin. He was a Tibetan monk of some sort, who I believe had taken a vow of silence.

LI-JING

Did he have a last name?–Wait never mind, most monks don’t have last names. This is a dead end.

SAMTEN

Forget him, Tenzin didn’t speak much at all, but the other guy was scarier.

JEAN-PIERRE

What do you mean, scarier–what other guy?

SAMTEN

He was a really big guy, I will never forget his name, it was a very long one. His name was Andruk–

LI-JING

–Andruk Gonpo Tashi?

SAMTEN

That’s it’s!

JEAN-PIERRE

You know him?

LI-JING

I know of him, we have to go, Thank you so much–you have been a great help.

CHODAK

You have questions?

LI-JING

We seek answers to Siling lake.

CHODAK

These are questions I cannot answer.

LI-JING

I understand and with all respect to the Holiness the Dalai Lama, we need to speak to him with regards to Andruk.

CHODAK

He does not speak to the ones that wish us harm.

JEAN-PIERRE

Excuse me…If I may, we are not the ones who wished you harm. We are here to save all the lands of the Mchod yon.

A remark.

JEAN-PIERRE

(To Li-Jing)

Yeah that’s right, I read a lot. Haven’t you learned anything about me?–Wait a minute… You want to meet Tenzin? Tenzin Gyatso is the Dalai Lama.

LI-JING

About time you caught up, Mr. I read a lot!

CHODAK

You are both right, and both remain unsure. The name Tenzin no longer exists after he swore a vow of silence to the last days of Potala palace.

LI-JING

Please, we understand but this is of great importance. Many lost souls–many Buddhist lives rely on just a few answered questions. He may hold the secret we seek.

STOPPED EDITING HERE. 7-13-26  840  PM

You need to add how they were dumped and by whom.

Dalai Lama knows the answer  find a way to have him speak it.

CHODAK

Your request is authentic. My fears are that his Holiness will see it as a new threat to his people and his vows.

LI-JING

The threat is already here. We are here to try and save the people. If I have read my scrolls truthfully he did not take a total vow of silence–

JEAN-PIERRE

–Which means his Holiness the Dalai Lama’s secrets are not forever Silent.

CHODAK

Hmmm, It seems you know more then led to believe. I will need to find a moment with him and relay your message. Return here tomorrow at the ringing of the high noon sound of the Buddha. Please go now.

Bows.

LI-JING

Thank you.

You have questions?

LI-JING

Your Holiness, we are in need of your spiritual guidance.

DALAI LAMA

I see, that is not what I was told.

LI-JING

Some years ago… did your Holiness and Andruk Gonpo Tashi meet with a man named Dr. Karl-Heinz Schafer.

DALAI LAMA

I was sad to hear of his passing, Yes.

JEAN-PIERRE

Yes, he was a good man. He also cared for many including the Tibetan people.

LI-JING

We believe you may hold a secret to protect all the land of the Mchod yon.

DALAI LAMA

The secret I hold is not a cure but a disease. That is why I had its usage stopped. It was constructed to cause only harm.

LI-JING

We believe we can stop this disease if we know it’s chemical structure, and I–I mean we believe you hold that secret.

CHODAK

Excuse me your Holiness, it is time.

DALAI LAMA

Some secrets are just that.

JEAN-PIERRE

Your holiness please… I, we are begging you.

DALAI LAMA

My children of the Buddha, I have always enjoyed the world of science–since I was 6 yrs old, and there is one thing I learned above all the rest. No matter what you throw her way, good or bad, Mother nature will always win. Remember your history. Mother nature herself has to be re-born if she wants to thrive.

CHODAK

Your Holiness, if you please.

Door opens.

JEAN-PIERRE

(Disgusted)

That’s it, your just going to walk away?

Guards take an abrupt stand.

LI-JING

Jean-Pierre, stop!

DALAI LAMA

If you insist to follow this path to find an answer–

LI-JING

–Yes your Holiness?

DALAI LAMA

I believe there is another.

(You must search out the one who suffers the most.) For the secret lies within.
